“Recently, I have had the great pleasure of being able to participate in Dr. Franklin Ellis' Diversity and Inclusion Training. This experience was extremely eye-opening and educational. I feel as though it brought light to issues that are often overlooked and swept under the rug. During one exercise, we split into groups based on our racial identities. Dr. Ellis and I were the only two of our group and given that, we were able to have raw conversations about what we experience on a day to day basis. As a result of this training, and the amazing job done by Dr. Ellis, I was able to take away many life skills and values that help me readjust the lens in which I see the world.”

“Dr. Franklin held an enlightening, empathetic session on Diversity and Inclusion during RA Training. Dr. Franklin facilitated an environment that encourages people to disclose and discuss in a safe, comfortable space. His session enabled me to understand better and to empathize with the stereotyping, discrimination and prejudice others experience. I learned so much about the feelings of others. What we know comes from our own experiences and we have to really try to think about the experiences of others. I believe that Dr. Franklin’s session was the most valuable part of training. His guided discussions maneuvered many sensitive, personal topics that are important to discuss but are often not because of their heavy nature. RA’s and CA’s work with a vast array of diverse students, each with a different set of experiences. I think Dr. Franklin’s session was the most beneficial session to guide University Housing Staff in understanding, empathizing with, and building meaningful connections with all of our residents.”

“Dr. Ellis’s presentation during our staff training was incredible, and far and away the best part of training. It was educational and was presented in a way that kept everyone engaged, laughing, and curious. Dr. Ellis kept us laughing, energized, and open. He spoke from the heart and asked us to do the same, and with his leadership, we were able to. He challenged our perspectives of ourselves and our beliefs, while validating us as individual people, and without making us feel neglected, invalidated, or unwelcome. His presentation was honestly and truly fun, and it made learning and grappling with the materials something we wanted to do, not just something we had to. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Ellis to anyone who wants to learn about diversity and how it personally interacts with them. I hope to have him come present again next year, and for many years to come.”

“This fall I had the opportunity to go through a very immersive training session held by an outsourced diversity department. Being present for the diversity and inclusion training held by Dr. Franklin was very engaging and eye opening to say the least. With dynamic activities and inviting conversation, I can say that I’ve walked away with something applicable to other spheres of my life.”
